The Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park located in the continental part of Veneto Region, strikes with the variety of landscapes, where high-mountain firs grow next to broad-leaved noble trees. One of the species of the flora is mountain elm. Its wood is similar to that of oak in its properties. However, elm is water resistant and is widely used in construction of dams, sluice gates, and canals. Many buildings and structures in Venice are built on pilings made of elm.
